RIP MJ

By: Jade Jorda

2009 is the year that we will always remember because of Michael Jackson’s tragic death. Not only was he an amazing artist, he was also a fashion icon. His music touched billions and he will always be remembered for his brilliant dance moves, heartwarming music and timeless style. Recently, designers such as Balmain, have taken Michael Jackson as their inspiration for their new collection and particular pieces like, the Marching Band Military Style Jacket, a piece that many of you will want to have in your closet. It is not about to go out of style. Michael (above) rocking the original Military/Band Jacket back when he was still a good-looking young man. However, instead of spending an outstanding $11,000 at Balmain for a jacket here’s where you can save tons and still look amazing.

The Runway:
Balmain, $11,000

Our Way:
Urban Outfitters, $98

This brings me to talk about another trend that's been seen on many runways. I am almost positive that you saw your grandma or aunty with those and thought to yourself "Wow, she is so out of style". Well, you'll quickly learn to never say never in Fashion because trends come and go and before you know it, the garment that you sworn you'd never wear is the one that you're dying to get: shoulder pads.

Now, these are styles seen on the runway, meaning that they are a little too expensive for us who love to have new clothes every so often... What you can do is simply, buy shoulder pads!
Here are a few steps to avoid looking like your grandma and instead looking like a model who just walked out of the runway:

★ Tuck a fitted blouse with medium-sized shoulder pads in a pencil skirt. You'll look classy and professional.
★ Wear shoulder pads under a tight mini dress. This will give you a chic 80s style. BUT don't have anything else that's 80s.
★ Wear them military style under a jacket to make it look like you're wearing Balmain.
★ And last but not least, always make sure to have natural-colored looking shoulder pads because they should never be seen but rather they should leave the observer wondering if you're wearing them.

VoilĂ  !!

♥Rest in peace Michael, you will always be loved and you will never be forgotten.♥
